If you’re searching for a quality mattress with cooling foam, proper bounce, and comfort, the Aurora just might tick all your boxes.

Veteran brand Brooklyn Bedding has introduced the Aurora as its high-end hybrid that combines coils and foam. We think it stands out among other bed-in-a-box brands with innovative cooling and comfort technology at an affordable price.

Brooklyn Aurora’s enhanced design and high-quality materials mean this model is good for many mattress customers, such as hot sleepers and budget shoppers. Hot sleepers should appreciate the inclusion of temperature-regulating materials, while budget shoppers should appreciate the competitive price point.

This hybrid comes in three different firmness levels, but our in-depth review of the Brooklyn Aurora focuses on the Medium, which will accommodate the widest variety of individuals.

Stick around for all the specifics, or feel free to jump ahead to the verdict and scoring sections.

Who Do We Think Matches With Brooklyn Aurora?

  • Folks Who Sleep Hot – Brooklyn Bedding has gone to exceptional lengths to incorporate cooling features in multiple layers of the Aurora, and it’s one of the coolest sleeping mattresses we have reviewed. Overheating is unlikely thanks to proprietary TitanCool™ technology, gel and copper-infused foams, and the temperature-regulating airflow of the coil layer.
  • Affordable Luxury Shoppers – This brand offers luxury features at an affordable price. How can the company offer such a high-end product for less? They own and operate their manufacturing process, meaning they do not use expensive middlemen and incorporate higher-quality materials for less cost to shoppers.
  • Sleepers Who Enjoy Bounce – If you love the springy feel that only coils can give, the Aurora may be the bed for you. Being bouncier helps with ease of repositioning and is excellent for bedroom activities.
  • Sleepers Seeking High-Quality Materials – The Brooklyn Aurora is made with high-quality materials such as the Ascension® coils, gel memory foam, dense polyfoam, and proprietary materials like TitanCool™, CopperFlex™, and TitanFlex™.

Possible Brooklyn Aurora Complaints:

  • It doesn’t have an all-foam feel. The pressure-relieving foams of this mattress are supported by a base layer of pocketed coils, which give it a higher bounce that helps you change positions. The coils also foster better airflow, allowing the bed to sleep cooler than some all-foam brands.

Weight Considerations

The Aurora mattress can support a total of 950 pounds. That is a substantial amount of support from this combination coil and foam hybrid and should be a good match for most sleepers.

However, Brooklyn Bedding does suggest that individuals who weigh over 300 pounds and those who want more support should consider the company’s Titan mattress, which is specifically designed for folks with significantly higher weight considerations.

The Aurora is available in three firmness options to best suit your size and sleep position. Sleepers can choose from a soft, medium, or firm model.

The Medium is the most universal feel, and therefore a good middle-ground for couples or combinations sleepers. Lightweight individuals will likely do best with the softer version, especially if they prefer sleeping on their side. Those who carry more weight or primarily sleep on their stomachs should consider the firm model.

Construction: What’s inside Brooklyn Aurora?

The Brooklyn Aurora is a luxury hybrid compressed into a box and shipped to your home. The mattress has handles on the side for easy placement and can be used on various foundations, including platforms, slatted frames, adjustable bases, and box springs. You can purchase foundations designed for the brand’s mattresses on the company’s website.

The cover’s top is made from a cotton blend with technology that the company calls phase-change TitanCool™. Cooling gel beads adapt to your body heat and help keep the surface temperature regulated. As a result, the cover has a soft and luxurious feel that is noticeably cool to the touch and has a non-slip component that helps keep sheets in place.

Other materials used in this bed include Ascension® coils, gel memory foam, dense polyfoam, and proprietary materials like CopperFlex™ and TitanFlex™. Brooklyn Aurora’s use of coils and responsive, conforming foams means that this model is also a good choice for those who need solid support and pressure relief, including back, side, and stomach sleepers. The Aurora is good for hot sleepers because it’s built with multiple cooling features, such as TitanCool™, cooling gel, and coils.

In total, the hybrid has a thickness of 13 inches.

  • The first comfort layer is a 1.5-inch layer of CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology. CopperFlex™ is a proprietary material from Brooklyn Bedding that’s a latex alternative foam designed to be highly responsive and contour the sleeper’s shape. This quick-responding layer provides pressure relief that should never overheat because the highly conductive gel helps to transfer heat away from the body.
  • The second comfort layer is 2 inches of hyper-elastic TitanFlex™, the company’s latex alternative that is extremely strong and should not pose a problem for sleepers with latex allergies. This layer provides additional contouring with added bounce.
  • The transition layer is a 1-inch swirl visco-elastic memory foam, which forms a transitional layer between the foam and support coils and helps to elevate the mattress’ motion isolation. The foam is infused with gel for further cooling. It ensures added pressure point relief.
  • The support layer is made from 1,032 individually-wrapped 8-inch Ascension® coils that provide support, durability, and stability. The coils also help with responsiveness and motion isolation, minimizing partner disturbance.
  • The base layer is made of .75-inch high-density foam that forms the bed’s foundation. This layer acts as a base for the coils as they move under the sleeper’s weight, giving the entire bed more stability.

First Impression: How Does It Feel?

The Aurora is a bed that ships directly to your door, compressed in a box. So setting it up should be quick and easy.

After it’s had some time to take shape, you’ll be able to test the Aurora out. The smooth and stretchy top weave should feel soft and luxurious. One of the first things you’ll likely notice is just how cool to the touch the surface is thanks to the CopperFlex™ foam with TitanCool™ technology.

Lying down, you will notice some sinkage through the first three foam layers that give this mattress a gentle cradle and cloud-like feel. However, Aurora’s materials do not allow you to sink too deep, and most are quick responding, so you shouldn't feel stuck.

The coil unit offers a deep bounce and support, and hyper-elastic TitanFlex™ adds extra bounce in the comfort layers. Both the quick response of the materials and the bounce make for easier repositioning.

Pressure Relief

Depending on your body size and which position you sleep in, excess pressure can build up when a lot of your weight is concentrated on a smaller area, such as the shoulders and hips.

Aurora’s comfort foam layers are designed to cradle the body, contouring to your natural curves gently. The layer of hyper-elastic TitanFlex™ foam is built to respond quickly to your body, adjusting each time you move. The layer of memory foam provides deeper contouring for the lumbar region and helps transition into the supportive coils below.

While the Medium should provide good pressure relief for most sleepers, those looking for even more contouring may consider the Soft option.

Without adequate support, your spine may end up in a funny shape leading to morning aches and pains. That’s why Aurora was engineered with an 8” base of up to 1,032 individually pocketed Ascension® coils that provide support and give this bed a good amount of bounce.

The Medium should work well if you want a balance between contouring and support, but the Firm may be a better option if you need additional lumbar support. This durable support system can accommodate up to 900 pounds in the Queen and King sizes, making it a good option for people with weight considerations.

The Soft Aurora is the least supportive, but it’s a great fit for lightweight sleepers as it doesn’t require too much weight to activate the upper layers.

Preference-based Features

Multiple Firmness Options

With three different levels of firmness to choose from, you should be able to find an option that has the right balance of pressure relief and support to meet your needs. The Firm model is the most supportive but may not be the best for pressure relief. On the other hand, the Soft Aurora is excellent for pressure relief but lacks support for heavier individuals. The Medium firmness is the most versatile as it fits most people with different sleeping preferences.

Cooling Features

Phase change TitanCool™ technology is infused into the top layer to provide cooling upon contact. The gel infused into foams helps draw the heat away from your body, preventing the materials from overheating. In addition, the innerspring layer allows for airflow throughout the bed, helping to keep you comfortable and cool.

The Aurora ships compressed in a box directly to your door. This model cuts out extra labor that can drive up costs, saving the company - and you - money. It takes up to 24 hours for the bed to decompress before you can sleep on it.

Great Motion Isolation

Brooklyn Aurora performs pretty well with motion transfer, thanks to the layer of memory foam and the pocketed coils. Memory foam has an excellent reputation for absorbing movement, and individually wrapping each coil helps ensure that motion doesn’t transfer from one coil to the next.

High Bounce

The combination of innersprings and hyper-elastic TitanFlex™ provides a good amount of bounce. As a result, repositioning should be easy thanks to the quick response of the materials and the high level of bounce.

Adjustable Base Compatible

You can use this mattress on an adjustable base.

Aurora vs. Winkbed

If you’re unsure about the Aurora and want to know how it measures up against other brands, we compare it to a similar competitor, the WinkBed.

Both of these mattresses are hybrids that offer shoppers three firmness choices. The Aurora uses TitanCool™ technology to help prevent overheating, while the WinkBed infuses gel in its top foam for cooling.

According to our Sleep Advisor firmness scale, the WinkBed’s softest and firmest models are slightly more plush than the Aurora. However, their mid-range models are both rated at a 6.5.

While both beds share a CertiPUR-US® certification for their foams, the WinkBeds has some more eco-conscious materials, including a sustainable Tencel cover that is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class 1 certified.

The Aurora and WinkBed each have a 120-night trial period. However, the WinkBed has a lifetime warranty, compared to Aurora’s 10-year one.

Each bed should do well with bounce. The Aurora is rated well for motion isolation, but the WinkBed should be suitable for those who need edge support.

For some shoppers, the height of the bed makes a difference. These beds are near identical in their height. The Aurora stands at 13 inches tall, whereas the WinkBed is slightly higher at 13.5 inches.

Overall Summary

The Brooklyn Aurora is a “super-cool” new luxury hybrid with multiple firmness options that should suit a wide range of sleepers. Apart from the standard sizes, the Aurora is also available in Short Queen, RV King, and RV Bunk.

Side Sleeping Icon

Side Sleepers

We gave this bed a four rating because side sleepers who need additional pressure relief may need the Soft option of this bed. Brooklyn Bedding built this bed to cradle the sleeper for excellent pressure relief, while the supportive coils were designed to keep the spine well-aligned. The Aurora also earned points for offering multiple firmness options so shoppers can choose the best match for them.

Back Sleeping Icon

Back Sleepers

The Brooklyn Aurora also earned a four here since individuals who need exceptional support for aches and pains may require the Firm model. This brand scored high marks thanks to diverse firmness choices and its construction that fosters contouring and support. Back sleepers should benefit from the foam’s contouring in their lumbar region while still experiencing the spine-aligning support of pocketed coils.

Stomach Sleeping Icon

Stomach Sleepers

We scored the Aurora at a four for stomach sleepers because those with heavier weight considerations may need to opt for the Firm option or a bed that’s specially catered for larger frames. However, we did give this bed positive marks since most stomach sleepers should be well supported by the hybrid’s Medium option.

Combination Sleeping Icon

Combination Sleepers

This Medium model of the Aurora earned a 5/5 from us for combination sleepers, who need a good balance between pressure relief and support, and they should find it in this bed. The Medium has the right amount of softness to cradle the body while still providing good support in every position. In addition, the high responsiveness means sleepers should never feel stuck when they move around during the night.

Couples Icon

Brooklyn Bedding recommends the Medium option for couples who want to strike a balance between comfort preferences. Couples shouldn’t have to worry about disturbing their partner as this bed does an excellent job of isolating motion.

Heavy Sleepers Icon

Heavy Sleepers

We gave the Aurora a score of four for heavier individuals because those who weigh more than 300 pounds will likely need a more supportive bed, such as the Titan from Brooklyn Bedding. However, this bed did score well in this category since it can hold up to 950 pounds. While some bed-in-a-box models lack the support that heavier sleepers need, the Aurora was engineered for durability.

Light Weight Sleepers

Light-Weight Sleepers

We rate the bed at a four in this category because the Soft model is ideal for lightweight side sleepers that need more pressure relief. However, we gave this bed good marks because the Medium should still be a viable choice for lighter folks who sleep on their back and stomach, positions that typically need a bit more support.

Overall Value

Overall, we give the Aurora a four because while the Medium can complement a wide variety of people, significantly heavier folks may need the Firm model or a bed built for higher weight considerations.

This bed is also suitable for shoppers who want options. With Aurora, you get three firmness choices and several sizes, allowing you to pick the feel that works best for your shape, sleep positions, and preferences.

Although the Aurora can handle up to 950 pounds, we don’t recommend the Medium model for sleepers who weigh 300 pounds or more. In this case, we would steer you to Brooklyn Bedding’s Titan mattress, a bed that’s constructed for those who need more substantial support.

Our Verdict

We recommend the Aurora for folks who need a mattress with exceptional cooling features. Aurora prioritizes cooler sleep with phase change TitanCool™ technology in the top layer and added airflow from the coils below.

This bed is also suitable for shoppers who want options. With Aurora, you get three firmness choices, allowing you to pick the feel that works best for your shape, sleep positions, and preferences.

We do not recommend this model for sleepers who weigh 300 pounds or more. In this case, we would steer you to Brooklyn Bedding’s Titan mattress, a bed that’s constructed for those who need more substantial support.
